Dendritic Salt
Dendretic salt is an incredibly fine, powdery salt that exhibits a star like (dendritic) crystaline structure as opposed to the normal fauceted (cube) shape of most salt. This is achieved in the drying process of ordinary sodium chloride salt by altering the formation of the crystals. While mainly used in the food industry as a natural non caking agent, it is highly useful in other industries as well. When added in even small quantities to scrubs and bath salts, this increased surface area of this little crystal helps to retain more than 2.5 times the amount of oils of tratitional salts....
Sea Salt
Sea salt is a nutrient rich crystalline substance naturally produced by the evaporation of seawater. Although mainly comprised of the same stuff as mined table salt (sodium chloride), sea salt differs in the addition of other nutrients and minerals naturally occurring in the waters from whence they came. Most sea salt on the market today is harvested in the Mediterranean region, where it is typically sun dried. This method is a much more economic solution to acquiring salt than mining for mineral salt. There have been claims that sea salt is healthier in diet than table salt, but this claim...
Shea Butter
Shea Butter is on off-white or ivory colored fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree. Records of its use go all the way back to ancient Egypt during Cleopatra’s reign to protect skin and hair from the harsh dessert sun and wind. Shea butter is solid at room temperature, with a melting point of 82 – 93 degrees Fahrenheit. Thus it melt upon contact with the skin, making it perfect for use in lotion bars and lip balms. The industry surrounding shea butter forms the backbone of many African communities. Our shea butter is imported from Africa...
Grapeseed Oil
Grapeseed oil is a very light and thin oil extracted from the seeds of the delicious little fruit we call grapes. This oil is a clear light yellow-green oil with little to no odor (aroma is slightly nutty when present). Grapes have been foraged for thousands of years for both its medicinal and nutritional value. It is only in recent years, however, that we have began extracting the oils from the seeds. Because there is so little oil in each seed, extraction would have been difficult without modern methods. Seeds for grapeseed oil are typically obtained as side products in...
Almond Oil
Almond oil has been used for centuries due to the amazing benefits packed into this sweet little nut. Well, it’s not actually a nut, it’s a drupe, and is the ancestor to many stoned fruits such as prunes, apricots and peaches. The almond tree is a species native to the Mediterranean, where it was first domesticated. There are two types of almonds; bitter (coming from wild almond trees) and sweet (coming from the domesticated variety). Bitter almonds are not edible but are sometimes used in creating essential oils for fragrance. Sweet almonds are what are generally familiar with. They are...
